There is a wide variety of accommodation, ranging from luxury hotels and self-catering condominiums to more economical hotels and dive lodges. Most of Grand Cayman’s condominiums are superbly situated on beaches and coastal areas and guests can walk out of the apartments onto beautiful beaches with crystal clear water. Many condominiums have been built in the last few years and are equipped with the latest fittings and furnishings, as well as central facilities such as swimming pools and tennis courts.
HOTELS:
The leading hotels are located on the coast. Some of the best known overlook Grand Cayman’s renowned Seven Mile Beach, a dazzling stretch of fine powdery sand said to be one of the world’s most beautiful beaches. There is also a fine selection of diving resort hotels. Hotels providing accommodation with 100 rooms are considered large in the Cayman Islands and are generally only found on Grand Cayman. Prices are seasonal, being higher in the winter than in the summer (when some hotels offer free accommodation for children under 12). The high season begins on 15 December and usually runs through to 15 April. During that time, visitors should expect to pay up to 50 per cent more for a room. A 10 per cent government accommodation tax is payable to the hotel on departure. Most also add a service charge (about 10 per cent). Hotels vary in standard from luxury (very comfortable, with some outstanding features) to tourist class (budget hotel).
