Travel By Water
Grand Cayman is one of the most popular Caribbean ports and a busy port of call for leading international cruise lines operating from North America, Mexico and Europe. The Cayman Islands are legally supposed to limit the number of cruise passengers to 6000 (three to four ships) per day. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are the busiest days in port. There is no cruise ship dock and passengers are ferried ashore by tenders to the North or South dock terminals in George Town. Cruise lines serving the Cayman Islands include Carnival, Crystal Cruises, Cunard, Fred Olsen, Norwegian, P&O Cruises, Royal Caribbean and Seven Seas.

Travel By Road
A good road network connects the coastal towns of all three main islands. Bus: Public minibuses operate from George Town to West Bay (every 15 minutes), to Bodden Town (every 30 minutes) and to East End and North Side (every hour). Fares are CI$1.50 to CI$2 each way. The bus terminal is located opposite the public library on Edward Street in central George Town. Services are normally from 0600-2300 (until midnight at weekends for most routes). There are 38 minibuses operated by 24 licensed operators. Routes are colour coded (with colours marked on the front and rear of the buses). Public buses have blue licence plates and standard fares are displayed inside. Mopeds and scooters: Available for hire on Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac. Riders are required by law to wear a helmet at all times. The average fee is US$27.50 per day, which includes helmet and permit. Bicycles: Available for hire on all three islands. On Cayman Brac and Little Cayman, most hotels have bicycles available for complimentary guest use. Taxi: There are large fleets of taxis operating from all resorts, the cruise dock at George town and the international airports. Car hire: Most major car hire companies are represented in George Town. 4-wheel-drive vehicles are also available. Driving is on the left and drivers must be over 21 years of age. Speed limits are strictly enforced and seat belts must be worn at all times. Full insurance is required and must be arranged with the car hire company; some companies will not insure drivers under 25. Documentation: A temporary local driving licence is required, which will be issued at a nominal charge on presentation of a valid licence from the traveller’s country of origin.
